You know that feeling when you stumble upon something incredible and get a shiver up your spine and that oh ah ah sensation! Whether it’s finding a favorite sweater that you thought was long lost or when you're ONLY window shopping and see something you must make part of your life. Well, that’s how Smudge co-founder Chris felt when he stumbled upon Ayres last summer in Mexico City. Ayres is a women-owned Mexican collective that creates contemporary pieces that evoke the intimacy and emotion of their culture.

Ayres founders Karim Molina and Joana Valdez originally met through a friend in Merida in the Yucatan state of Mexico and serendipitously moved to Mexico City at the same time.  They both desired to work with artisans to create “objects that tell a story and have a purpose within our spaces” -- Ayres was born.

When you get your hands on an Ayres piece you can truly feel energy coursing through it. This is because their products are infused with the history and culture of the materials and the artisans that make them. In their own words, “we are inspired by pre-Hispanic culture and natural materials; when we design a collection the material is the protagonist, from there we create the designs.”

We felt a bond with these badass women and naturally looked to Ayres when searching for a tray to serve as our Smudge Charging Station, a place to display your Smudge crystals and other components.  Our desire to tell a story and share it with the world was a perfect match with their philosophy and we knew we had to partner with them! And to boot, Karim and Joana are no strangers to smudging when summoning their inspiration: “we love to put incense and copal in our spaces to cleanse the energies and be calm when designing.”

We’ve selected their Plato Tulum, made of solid Tzalam wood from the Yucatan. A truly beautiful and one-of-a-kind piece, using this tray as your Charging Station is also an opportunity to share your spirited wellness practice and intentions with your friends and family. We hope you love it as much as we do.
